Ingredient Spotlight - Caramel

There’s something quintessentially fall about caramel—the color, the taste, the texture—all of which pair wonderfully with the autumn months. While it is tasty as candy, it can also be used with fruit, cakes, ice cream, and other desserts. If you’re looking for some new caramel recipes to try, I’ve pulled together a group of my favorite ones that I think are worth a try.

Homemade Caramel Apples

One of the essential fall treats, caramel apples are a favorite of many people everywhere. This delightful recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction is one you can make entirely from scratch, so you probably have all the ingredients at your house! The homemade caramel sauce is soft and chewy and adheres to the apple easily. Be sure not to apply the sauce too heavily, or it will pool at the bottom of the apple.

Caramel Corn

This super sweet treat is a favorite of many people, and with good reason - you can make it right at home with only a few ingredients. Aside from the popcorn, you’ll need salted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, vanilla, baking soda, and salt to make the creamy caramel. For those looking for a great recipe, She Wears Many Hats has a delicious one on her blog you should try.

French Caramel Apple Cake

This cake may look ambitious, but it will be mouthwatering no matter what! It is moist, light, and tender—so much so that you won’t need to add frosting. When cutting the apples for the cake, be sure not to cut them too thick, or they won’t soften as much throughout baking. Courtesy of The Café Sucre Farine, this fantastic recipe is excellent for any get-together.

Caramel Brownies

Brownies are one of my favorite desserts, so why not add creamy caramel? Rich, moist, and delicious, these caramel brownies are the perfect recipe for a party or yourself on a chilly fall night. The smell and taste of caramel brownies mean they won’t be lying around for long. Making these decadent brownies from Ahead of Thyme takes less than an hour.

Cheers friends!
